Pimpernel by Sheralyn Pratt
3/21/2016
About the BookThey seek him here; they seek him there. For centuries, the elite of the world have sought the Pimpernel everywhere. Some want to kill him, others want to hire him, but Jack Cavanaugh knows that the love/hate relationship comes with the job title. At present, Jack is trying to dismantle an investment scheme centered in Las Vegas, but "trying" is the operative word. It's been a month since he put the face of the scheme behind bars, yet the scam is still going strong. As Jack tries to uncover who has stepped in as the new head, what miniscule evidence there is all seems to point him back to Claire Ramsey, an introverted PhD student studying at UNLV. If ever there as an unlikely head of a investment scheme, Claire's it. She has a genius IQ, but from all Jack has seen, Claire’s intelligence is as much a blessing as a curse when paired up with her acute OCD. Claire can barely make conversation with the cute guy down the hall, which makes it hard to believe she could be the charismatic salesperson who is getting international businessmen to invest $5—50 million a pop. So what is Jack missing? What is the real story behind Claire Ramsey? And once Jack learns it, will he be able to walk away? Available to purchase on - AMAZON - About the AuthorSome describe Sheralyn as a girl who's been around the block and worked at every shop. This isn't far from the truth. Writing is what she loves most, however. There's a magical power in stepping into new perspectives time and again, and seeing the world through different eyes. Few things increase empathy more than walking in another's shoes for 100,000 words or so. At least that seems to be the trend so far. Some random things to know about Sheralyn: * She's a wanderer (geographically) * She can write a novel, but doesn't have the attention span for one page in a journal * She vehemently disagrees with Stephen King's stance that authors should not watch TV * She is pretty much incapable of sleeping before midnight ReviewAlready a lover of the musical, The Scarlet Pimpernel, I was thrilled to discover Sheralyn Pratt’s novel remake, Pimpernel. Sheralyn’s novel was a fantastic fun and thrilling novel to read. I never quite new for sure what to expect. Some of the characters in the book are not always who you think they are. From page one I was hooked and did not want to put this remarkable book down. Fast-paced with plenty of exhilarating moments and wonderfully developed and delightful characters, this novel is a must read. I would recommend this novel to readers that enjoy contemporary, mystery, romance novels with a twist from original storylines. CHAPTER ONE, Part 2
The mention of her job brought a smile to Luci’s lips. “Right. I’m working for Glen Thomas at the chamber of commerce. Writing, of course. Articles, brochures, some PR, a little of everything. How about you?” “I’ll be in town till I get another assignment. Then I’ll be off again. You know me.” He shrugged and sipped his beer. “Nice you could come back for a visit,” she said, hoping she didn’t sound insincere. “Bet your mom’s happy to see you.” “She’s here, too.” He nodded toward the back door. “I left her in the kitchen trading recipes with your mom. Something about sponge cake.” “For Mom’s strawberries,” Francine said. Anna Monroe and Olive Jarvis stepped from the house. Anna placed a large bowl on the buffet table and said, “Olive made her famous potato salad.” “Thank you, Olive,” Luci said. Cody’s mother was an attractive woman who shared her son’s dark hair and brown eyes. “You’re most welcome.” Olive enveloped Luci in a hug and then squeezed Anna’s hand. “This is a happy day, isn’t it? Both our children home again.” Cody rolled his eyes. “I’m going on thirty here.” “But children are always that, aren’t they?” “They are,” Anna agreed. “Well, look who’s here!” Luci’s father, having left his post at the barbecue pit, burst into the group, thrusting out his hand to Cody. “Hey, Erv.” Cody shook the other man’s hand. “Good to see you,” Erv said. “Want to hear about all the places you’ve been.” Some of the other guests wandered over, and soon a large group had gathered around Cody. Luci edged away and circulated among the other guests, but Cody’s presence distracted her. She heard him laugh politely at pharmacist Hal Barnett’s corny joke and watched him help Don’s wife, Arliss, pop open sodas for their children, ten-year-old Spencer and eight-year-old Hannah. She tracked his movements despite herself. When her father’s barbecued chicken was done, the guests lined up at the buffet table. Cody sat with Don and his family. Then Francine and her husband, Will, and their daughters, Betsy and Megan, joined the group. Luci thought about joining them but instead sat with two friends from high school and their families. When Cody finished eating, he did what she expected him to do—put his camera into action. He gathered several couples and their children for a group shot. He caught her father and one of his golf buddies laughing over a joke, and her mother showing off her prize roses to the ladies in her garden club. Even the musicians posed for him. Luci sighed. Cody had turned her homecoming party into one of his photo shoots. Needing a break, she wandered to the edge of the lawn where a path led through the dunes to the beach. The ocean sparkled under a sun about to slip below the horizon, and the waves made a soft shushing sound as they rolled onto the shore. If only she could escape there now. When something upsetting happened, a walk on the beach always helped to calm her. Cody’s unexpected appearance was certainly one of those times. As soon as the party was over... Giveaway

Ferguson’s novel By the Stars is a unique and delightful read based on the life of Cal. It is an inspiring WWII romance novel. As Cal goes off to fight in the war he must rely on God to survive. He doesn’t expect to come home to a stranger pointing a loaded gun at his chest— a tough yet beautiful woman that Sam hired as the house manager. Colt senses there’s more to Angelina Morales than meets the eye and he’s determined to find out what she’s hiding...and why.
Colt’s return brings new challenges. Younger brother Nick has been Sam’s right-hand man at the ranch for years and isn’t thrilled at having Colt insert himself into Double S affairs. And the ranch’s contentious relationship with the citizens of Gray’s Glen asks all the Stafford men to examine their hearts about what it truly means to be a neighbor. And as Wall Street recovers, will Colt succumb to the call of the financial district’s wealth and power—or finally the courage to stay in the saddle for good?
Multi-published, bestselling author Ruth Logan Herne loves God, her family, her country, dogs, chocolate and coffee! A country gal with a heart for the big city, Ruthy likes nothing more than to write the kind of books she loves to read, and she's even more happy that now she gets paid to do it! She's been married for a Very Long Time and she and her husband Dave live on a small farm in upstate New York where lake effect snow buries them on a regular basis in winter. But that's all right... it gives her more time to write!
Check out the interview with Ruth HERE.
1. Colt had to be smokin’ hot to be a guy who can transition from Wall Street mega-earner to tall-in-the-saddle cowboy… I needed a power player image so I used my son Luke’s job in NYC to give me the basis… and then made Colt cowboy-up!
2. Central Washington got picked as the home for the big, sprawling Double S Ranch because the gorgeous broad, lush Kittitas Valley has a history of being one of the best produce and meat producing areas from the time of the early settlements. 3. I’m writing a Christmas historical novella set in the very same location to show what life was like in the valley 120 years before! And it was still gorgeous then! 4. Angelina is one tough cookie, but she’s also all woman, with a heart for children… and we see that throughout the stories, but she does greet Colt with a gun aimed at his back… and unafraid to use it! 5. I used an example here in upstate New York… a philanthropist who is buying up areas of a small town, refurbishing them and tucking businesses into the. Like a whole town facelift… I love that “Teach a Man to Fish” mindset! 6. Isabo has an intuitive sense about people… and about Stafford men. Not much gets by Isabo, ever. 7. We’ve put several of the Double S Ranch recipes over at Yankee Belle Café, the fun, easy-going virtual café I run with Missy Tippens, Mary Jane Hathaway, Cate Nolan, Jan Drexler, and Mindy Obenhaus. Isabo’s Cinnamon Rolls, Angelina’s Cherry Cake and Angelina’s Pulled Beef. 8. One facet of Sam Stafford’s personality was inspired by Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “The Lost Christmas Eve” a poignant CD about a man who lost his wife, the love of his life, and then paid no attention to his child… And that little piece of Sam makes all the difference in learning to love him. The big oaf. J 9. I loved being able to write cowboys and kids and cows and horses and dogs and oh, yes… did I mention cowboys???? 10. Gray’s Glen is loosely based on Cle Elum, a great town in Central Washington, and home of the Cle Elum Bakery, with some of the best donuts (doughnuts!) I’ve ever had! Hats off to the staff of the Cle Elum Bakery! Discussion with Ruthy...

3/17/2016
If We Were a Movie by Kelly Oram (Power of the Matchmaker #3) Music meets Movies in this sweet college romance from the bestselling author of Cinder & Ella. NYU freshman Nate Anderson is a triplet who is desperate to escape his wild and crazy brothers. After they screw things up for him one too many times, Nate flees his housing situation and takes the first available room for rent as far from his brothers as he can get. Enter his new roommate Jordan--a quirky LA girl who believes that everything in life has already been done in the movies. In this heartfelt tale of love, friendship and family, Nate learns how to deal with his new adult life using Hollywood films as a guide.
What readers just like you are saying about If We Were a Movie:
"WOW! This book is great! The concept is so inventive, and the writing is brilliant."
"I thought Cinder & Ella jerked with my emotions too much but this one might have it beat."
"I finished reading If We Were a Movie yesterday. I loved it! I fell hard for Nate. Jordan was amazing! And Pearl's timing was perfect! "
"Amazing concept with movies as chapters, and fantastic storyline." "I loved this story and was humming along to the songs from the book whilst reading. I can see this book becoming the movie it was written to be." "If We Were a Movie made me want to binge watch movies, listen to old playlists and re-read it all at once."
TEASER: “So this is what a Pearl-approved guy looks like.” She shook her head once and cracked a smile. “She’s got good taste, I’ll give her that. You’re an odd mix of sexy and adorable. Don’t see that often.”
I was a little taken aback by the compliment, if that’s even what it was. She may have just been stating what she considered to be fact. She laughed at my surprise and held out her hand to me. “Nice to meet you. I’m Jordan Kramer.”
I’d been afraid of that. “You’re a girl.”
Jordan laughed. “That’s what it says on my birth certificate, but I’m really glad you were able to figure it out without needing to read it.”
Nope. I definitely didn’t need that.
TEASER: I handed Jordan the electric guitar that I’ve had since I was twelve, and laughed when her eyes got really big. “You play the electric guitar, too?” “Music major,” I teased, picking up my keyboard. “I play this, too. A little. And the bass guitar.” “Awesome.” She examined the electric guitar with awe. “Why do you seem so surprised?” She looked at me as if the answer to that question should be obvious. “Hello. Have you met yourself? You with an acoustic guitar singing soft songs around a campfire or in a coffee house makes perfect sense. But I can’t picture you up on a stage, jamming on your electric guitar like a rock star.” She studied me a moment, then shook her head. “You’ll have to play for me, or I’m not going to believe it.”
Kelly Oram wrote her first novel at age fifteen--a fan fiction about her favorite music group, The Backstreet Boys, for which her family and friends still tease her. She's obsessed with reading, talks way too much, and likes to eat frosting by the spoonful. She lives outside of Phoenix, Arizona with her husband, four children, and her cat, Mr. Darcy.

And her constant reminder is that whether we are in the midst of dark days or mundane moments Jesus is always there, life is surprisingly beautiful, and God is forever good. ### And It Was Beautiful: Celebrating Life in the Midst of the Long Good-Bye(David C Cook, March 2016) “I was here. I saw beauty. I embraced it.” —Kara Tippetts How do you live out extravagant love in the everyday moments? How do you celebrate grace when your life turns out differently than the one you dreamed? Kara Tippetts discovered how to find joy in the small moments of life. She learned how to hold tight to hope even while battling intense physical and emotional pain. It is about learning how to discover the joy of life even through the pain. This reminds me of the common quote, “Live well. Laugh often. About the BookUpon her return from her best friend Charlie’s wedding, Victoria found that the beautiful city of Chicago had never seemed emptier and neither had her soul. She realized she was surrounded by all the people in the world and she still felt lonely. Deciding to take her friend Charlie’s advice and make a change in her life, she packed her bags and moved to the west coast of Florida. Little did she know that the young Amish girl that she met on the sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico would begin a spiral of emotional changes for both of them. She is also the founder and creator of the Whoopie Pie Book Club, a well know social media site. While battling Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma, Pam created the Whoopie Pie Book Club. For years, she called a group of ladies in her family by that same name. Every year, they travelled to Amish Country for a retreat of reading Amish fiction, seeing the Amish sights and eating plenty of Whoopie Pies. Inspired by the Amish for their simplicity in facing life, love of God, and honor for family, Pamela found a connection with the Amish. As a result of her many years of traveling and conducting business with the Amish, she has established close friendships with many Amish families, friendships that she cherishes. She refers to them as her extended family. ReviewAlthough it took me a little bit to get into this book, Pamela Jo’s story in the first book in her The Sands of Time Series, New Beginnings, is a realistic read, with likeable characters that readers will enjoy. This novella is a fairly short quick read. The story is about Victoria, a woman that is surrounded by many people, but is still lonely and how she discovers herself after befriending an Amish girl dealing with cancer. I was born in Utah, but grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona and St. Louis, Missouri, the fifth of seven children. I attended Southern Virginia University and Brigham Young University, where I studied English and Theater. I now live in Idaho with my husband and four children. I have Charlotte Brontë to thank for the courage to write novels. After being bombarded with assigned reading about women who justified abandoning either their families or their principles in the name of love, I had the great fortune of reading Jane Eyre. And that was it: finally, a heroine who understood that being moral and making the right choice was hard, and sometimes it hurt, but it was still worth it. After rereading it several years later, I realized that if I wanted more books to exist with the kinds of heroines I admired, then I might as well write a few myself. My books are about women who face hard choices, who face pain and rejection and often have to face the reality of sacrificing what they want for what is right. The consequences are often difficult or unpleasant, but in the end, doing what’s right will always be worth it. I believe there is no substitute for good writing or good chocolate. Fortunately, one often leads to the other.
